Stephen Threlkeld received his B.S. in Oceanography and his Ph.D. in Zoology and worked as an aquatic ecologist and statistician, author and editor, for about 40 years, most recently as Professor of Biology at Ole Miss. Simultaneously, he was living a second life as a collector of the arts. 

After early forays into painting and graphic design, he took weaving classes in New Mexico and North Carolina, and now expresses himself artistically through this medium. His weavings are often inspired by features and colors of the American landscape, and sometimes include mathematical series or biological themes.
