“I was a knitter of garments and then became a knitter of art. The difference was provoked by a gift of vinyl-coated polyester yarn which no one wanted as a garment. What could I do that would make this material interesting to hang on the wall? What can this material do that would make it worthy of viewing without being useful in the way that a piece of clothing is? I then began to look for non-garment things to do with all of my yarn.

I began knitting in college to stave off loneliness and, since 1977, have never been without at least one project on the needles. Knitting provides continuity and a source of comfort in my life. I was a member of the Craftsmen's Guild of Mississippi for many years, and received a BA in studio art from the University of Louisville in 2013.”
